Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung, officially opened the new Mitcham Fire Station yesterday.
Crews have been relocated from Lower Green West, where they were based for almost 100 years, to a new state-of-the-art station on London Road. Firefighters began operating from the new station on London Road in February.
The new station will provide a modern working environment for crews, space for two fire engines and training facilities including a drill yard, four storey training tower and an area for road traffic collision training.
Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung said: “It is fantastic to see the regeneration of Mitcham Fire Station. This new facility will both house and train fire fighters as well as giving the local community the opportunity to gain vital fire safety advice.”
